The Nick of Time: Nick Saves the Future!
A downloadable game for Windows
I am always fascinated with the idea of being able to manipulate time, so why not making 8 short levels to bring it to life alongside a somewhat non-sensical story?
So, in this game, you will control Nick, who is for some reason chosen by the ultimate Time-Lord to save the future and granted the power to manipulate time around him.
Download instructions: Unzip the Windows.zip file and click the “TheNickOfTime “ executable in the unzipped folder. Enjoy the experience!
Controls:
WASD or Arrow Keys - Move
J and L - rewind and advance time respectively
E or K - Interact with surrounding objects
This game was made entirely using Processing and was programmed and designed by only me, Minh Phan. The song playing throughout the game is Home Sweet Grave from the Guilty Gear Isuka OST (or better known as so-called The Nightmare Begins from the soundtrack of I Wanna Be The Guy).
Developing this game was quite difficult because not only was I doing it alone, I mainly had to create a physics engine (to make the trees fall realistically) and a layering engine (Move around the trees to see its effect!) from scratch. So, the art style and graphics of this game in the end looks somewhat primitive and would have undergone more polishing if more time had been given. Also, it has been a long time since I last touched Processing so it took quite a while to master it once more.
In the end, I learned more than I expected from using Processing, and I managed to use some knowledge of physics I have acquired at school so far. If I had a chance to further develop this game, firstly, I would improve the game's graphics and main menus (add shading for example), and add some more music. Next, I would add more levels and puzzles, as well as new obstacles like a boulder. Finally, using the new assets, I would replace the current ending with a more "cinematic" and "exciting" one, with much more emphasis in the "action" factor (How it would look is still hazy in my head right now).
Alright, that is all I can discuss the game at the moment.
Have fun!
